Movie Review: Santa Claus is Coming to Town

It's almost Christmas (and almost break!!) so I've reviewed today Santa Claus is Coming to Town. This is my favorite Christmas movie and it always gets me in the spirit of Christmas. I think it's because it is one of the only movies that tells a cute origin story of ol' Kris Kringle in a fun, unique, and magical way.

Warning! Spoilers Ahead.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town begins with a mailman in the North Pole reading letters to Santa - and most of them are questions. The rest of the movie is answering those questions, like where he got his name, why he wears a red coat, why he comes at Christmas. In the end, all of the questions are answered and the mailman goes on to drive around with the characters we met throughout the movie.

My favorite part of this movie are the characters- from the Winter Warlock, Burgermeister Meisterbuger, Miss Jessica, all of the Kringle's, and Santa himself.
The Winter Warlock as a character teaches the importance of gift giving. Before he met Kris Kringle, he made it virtually impossible to travel throughout his wood, because he was "the bad guy" who would harm anyone who did. When Kris gave him a toy, it melted his frozen heart and he became good.
The Burgermeister Meisterburger has my favorite name of all time. It's so utterly ridiculous that it just makes me laugh. While his character didn't do the best things due to him banning toys, I still enjoyed him, especially when people said his full name. I laugh every time.
Miss Jessica became Mrs. Claus, and she helped Kris become Santa Claus. Really without her, he would have had no way to continue what he was doing.
The Kringle's, the First Toy Makers to the King, are so jolly. They are "elves" that make the toys for Santa, and their names all rhyme with Kringle. I think they're voiced by the same person to, so there is no way to determine who is who really, unless you know which beard shape belongs to which name.

The songs are also so cute and, at times, inspirational, especially to little kids. My favorite song is "Put One Foot in Front of the Other," just because it's so catchy and memorable. It shows kids (and me) that all it takes to do something good, to make a change even, is to just put one foot in front of the other.

The movie itself is a stop motion animation, which is perfect for this movie. Regular animation wouldn't be quite as perfect, and it wouldn't work as a live action movie. Maybe I think this because I grew up watching it as a stop motion animation so anything else just seems weird, but it works.

While there are a lot of Christmas movies out there, this one takes the cake for me. It's cute, it gets me into the Christmas spirit, and I think it tells the story of Santa Claus and Christmas in a great way (Elf is a close second. That one is just so funny). With the songs, the characters and the lessons they teach, and the style of the movie, it's seems like a big Christmas present wrapped in a beautiful little movie.
